KPAC 89.7 FM is the Central Valleys premiere college radio station! KPAC broadcasts out of Stockton, California, at the University of the Pacific and is run entirely by members of the University community! Our signal comes from on top of Burns Tower and spans out about 2 miles from the campus. We are currently looking to increase our wattage, but quite honestly, we currently lack the necessary funds.
University of the Pacific once had a radio station called KUOP, and it was operated by a paid staff. Costs were high and the radio broadcasting degree program was cut, so in Fall 2000, the university sold KUOP. KUOP was first known as KCVN back in 1947, and was changed to KUOP in 1964.
Read more about what happened to KUOP.
KPAC has been overseen primarily by Dr. Alan Ray of the Communication Department ever since its establishment in 1991, though it was run by ASuop for a brief period in the mid-to-late 1990's. Last Spring, KPAC's programming was mostly made up of students in Dr. Ray's broadcasting course, with a few others here and there who were personally or professionally interested in radio. This past Fall 2007, the broadcasting course was not offered, so we had to find people who wanted to be in the radio. After putting up flyers around campus and pulling as many of the people we knew into the station, we were able to achieve over 25 completely volunteer shows, totaling almost 40 hosts! Our automated playlist programming used to be heavy metal in Spring 2007, though it was changed to electronic in Fall 2007, and eventually became strictly House music during the Winter of 2007 into the near year. More of KPAC's history is currently being assembled and piece by piece will be posted here!
KPAC offers several different kinds of shows, such as:
- Talk Shows - Alumni Interviews, Strange/Odd News, Religious Affiliated, Music Industry News, and even shows from Risk Management and Public Safety!
- Music Shows - Hip-Hop, Rock, R&B, Rap, Jazz, Reggae; Pretty much college music!
KPAC's Spring 2008 semester is now underway! We have decided to split our programming 6 ways: Rock, Hip-Hop, House, Jazz, Classical, and Talk shows. This was to allow for more consistency and predictability in our programming, help in the growth of our show diversity, and was done per your requests!
Interested in becoming a KPAC host and having your own show? Refer to our Apply page for application information!
Upcoming Features - The KPAC website will soon host a live video stream of PAC2 TV and have KPAC radio show archives and podcasts available for download! Next year the Pacific Mixers will be producing their own music, and you'll be able to purchase their CD's and our KPAC promo gear right off the website! See below for our organization's complete list of goals for the next few semesters.
Live Remotes - KPAC Radio holds the ability to conduct live, remote broadcasts on- or off-campus to generate awareness about the station, or to broadcast an event/promotion we are running. We always give out free materials so come grab your free swag! Just follow the loud music...we are generally somewhere in that direction.
Live remotes generally occur either on a Friday or Saturday evening, or at major on-campus events such as Pacific Basketball games, Activity Fairs, Preview Days, or other large community activities.

KPAC Radio: What's New? -
Download Issue (PDF)
KPAC Radio is aspiring to continue to create a solidified and recognizable name and image for itself on the Pacific campus. With this said, we are progressing towards building a foundation upon which 89.7fm will be established with a few specific genres of music that will typify KPACs existence on this campus, while still allowing diverse content preferred by each different radio personality. We are interested in being a primary source of information, news, and advertising for student and non-student organizations and hope to give back to the university in the form of a qualitative broadcasting experience and coordinating small- to large-scale programming. We are also interested in building the much-needed bridge between the University of the Pacific and Stockton, California. We'll
promote your cause in exchange for promoting ours!
