University-wide phone system upgrade coming May 5

Pacific Technology is planning a major telephone system upgrade that will affect the Cisco IP Phones and related services university-wide. The upgrade is necessary in order to move the current telephone system to a Cisco-supported software version.

In an effort to minimize the impact to users, the upgrade process is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, 2018, between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. 

During this time, there will be intermittent outages of all services that rely on the telephone system including incoming and outgoing calls, voicemail, campus emergency phones, and faxes.  Callers can reach Public Safety during the outage window at the following numbers:

  • Sacramento: 916.217.0896
  • San Francisco: 415.315.0155
  • Stockton: 209.957.3944

Note the information below to help you prepare for the telephone system upgrade:

  • Prior to May 5, Pacific Technology recommends that users delete all unnecessary messages from their voicemail boxes. This action will reduce the amount of time required to copy voice messages to the new voicemail server. 
  • Changes made between April 15 and May 5 to your voicemail box setup (such as, recorded greeting, pin number, etc.) will be lost after the upgrade.
  • On May 5, some phones may not register with the new server after the upgrade process. Pacific Technology will attempt to identify these phones and resolve these issues prior to staff and faculty returning to work Monday, May 7.
